About the artist
Huyen Phan is a Vietnamese artist who specialises in mixed media, textured art.
The artist words:
"A few years ago, I lost everything. When my business went bankrupt, my financial stability, self-esteem, and confidence vanished with it. I fell into a severe depression and, twice, nearly lost my life.
In that darkness, I picked up a brush. Completely self-taught, I tried everything—portraits, nature, still-life, and abstract. I experimented with pencils, watercolours, oils, acrylics, and mixed media on canvas, glass, ceramics, and even walls. Somewhere in that fearless experimentation, I found a talent I never knew I had, and I built a brand new me.
Today, I’ve found my true voice in vivid, bold colours and rich, sculpted layers. Just like life, my art is built layer by layer, holding multiple emotions at once. Whether I’m hand-painting custom glassware to preserve a favourite flower from a special occasion, or sculpting textured, reconstructed bouquets on canvas, my goal is simple: I want my work to radiate pure joy and happiness.
Because art saved me, I now take this passion into prisons and immigration centres alongside charities and non-profits. These can be the most hopeless places on earth, filled with people feeling the exact despair I once knew. I share my art there with one simple hope: that maybe, just maybe, someone else will pick up a brush and find their new self in the process, too."
Huyen’s works have won The Outstanding Award in the Koestler Arts contest 2023, won The Highly Commended Award for Blog Writing, The Commended Award for Handmade Book, and The Platinum Award for Portrait Category in the Koestler Arts contest 2024.

She has been working with Community Arts Projects UK as social media and outreach manager to raise awareness of the importance of art in mental health in UK prisons .
Her artworks are featured in the Redemption Roaster coffee chain in prominent London locations.

She was invited to speak at the several Criminal Justice conferences as well as Prison and Probation Services Conferences, Inspired Talks to show challenges for foreign national women with criminal records and how to overcome those with art.

She also volunteers for Bails for Immigration detainees in graphic design capacity. She designs the organisation's promotion materials for campaign, exhibitions and events.

Her artworks have been exhibited with some primed-location art galleries in the UK such as Under The Rainbow, The Holy Art, Boomer Gallery, Untitled exhibition, Leamington Spa Art Room
She is now one of four artists in resident at Leamington Spa East Lodge Art Studios.
